Kickin' Fear in the Butt & A Sale!!!

Hi ya’ll! Well, I told you the other day I had some *major* reveals and announcements. I think I need to let you in on the announcement, before I reveal too much more of my pickins from the other weekend. But before I do, I need to tell you a little bit about “my story”. I will try not to let this story get away from me and hopefully I can keep it fairly short & sweet without putting you to sleep! J
As it says in my “About Me”, I have always had a passion for crafting, drawing, painting, etc. Even after childhood, once I got married I was always changing things around in my home and painting rooms. It has been the running joke in my family that every wall in my home has been painted at least 5 times! I remember one time, this is no lie, I wanted bricks in my kitchen. Obviously I couldn’t afford to brick my kitchen so I decided to paint bricks on the walls. Yep, that’s right…I painted faux bricks on my walls. And it took for.ever. (or so it seemed) It did take a couple of weeks, ok anyhoo…I took a couple of rectangle craft sea sponges, some craft paint & paper plates, mixed my paint to my desired colors, dipped my sponges and pressed them to the wall in alternating colors, then  I went in between all those “bricks” and painted the “grout”!  When I got done, I stepped back and admired my work…for about a month.  Then I was ready for change. Again.
I won’t say I sacrificed anything. Like many of you, I did put my dreams on hold, or maybe I didn’t realize what my dreams were at the time. Maybe I was doing what my dreams were at the time, raising my children. But my dreams have changed (or maybe I’m picking up where I left off?) and my children are pretty much grown. I have a son in the Marines just starting his own family, and my daughter is a senior.  Through a series of life’s journey; a divorce, my children growing up, a downsizing at my job, and meeting Mr. Right…I believe now is the time for me.
I will not lie, I have struggled with this for over a year. I have literally stalked some of these incredible blogs, envying the authors, wondering “why can’t I do that?” Well, I can! At least that’s what I tell myself, until I let fear drown out my courage. What if I’m not good enough? What if nobody likes my stuff? It  gets  sooo overwhelming. I want to do so much and it paralyzes me.  I pray about it, I let it consume me…literally. I let fear immobilize my efforts. Then I read some more blogs. Do you realize how many blogs have started up just this year? With people just like me? Wanting to do the same thing as me? And now I read all these wonderful blogs like FYI 31 Days Blog to Biz, and All Things Thrifty Blogging 101 series …and so many more that it takes so much time to just read them all! And then I wonder if God is trying to guide me, or am I just wanting to think God is trying to guide me b/c this. is. really. what. I .want. to. do.
I have my goals. I have started a plan. I am constantly going to thrift stores, yard sales, and auctions and bringing home more stuff. I have had a booth,  and we are now in the process of looking for a brick & mortar shop. But until then? I’m going to keep taking baby steps. I’m going to keep my goals. I’m going to perfect my plan. I’m going to continue to learn. I’m going to get better. I’m going to make mistakes. I’m going to make my dreams a reality. And I’m going to kick fear in the butt. Because I can. J
We have decided that since we have so. much. stuff.,  and we haven’t found our dream shop yet, we are going to improvise. I have a garage apartment that is not being used, so I have the perfect space right here at home, (just not the perfect location). So we are going to use what we got, advertise, and get ready…and we are HAVING A SALE BABY!!!! This weekend! Saturday and Sunday! If you are in the area(Jackson, GA-check out my Craigslist Ad here), please stop by! I would love to meet you! And maybe, just maybe, you’ll take home a little piece of me! J

Thank you Funky Junk Donna, All Things Thrifty, Miss Mustard Seed…and so many more…for your inspiration and selflessness. I want to be just like you when I grow up! J Knowledge is to be shared and I will pay it forward.
This post comes at the perfect time to link up to one of my all time favorite blogs, who has inspired me (as well as so many others) and has given me the “push” I need to continue down my path…so I’m linking to Funky Junk Donna’s  31 Days Blog to Biz/ day 31 “my Story”. If you’re looking for inspiration, there’s plenty to go around!

Nothing says the South like a little sweet tea!

Hi ya’ll! I hope everyone is enjoying their weather as much as we have been down here in the *SOUTH*! It’s been a little bit chilly at night and in the mornings, but the days have been absolutely gorgeous! I love the fall! Like many of you, it is my favorite time of the year!

Well, the other day I showed you my pickin treasures, here. Today, I want to show you what I did with this dresser. Here is the “before”...

I will tell you I almost did not get this. Not because I didn’t want it, but because I knew it would not fit in the truck and as we were quite a ways from home, I didn’t want Mr. Right to have to go back and get it, but being Mr. Right, it was his idea to get it and make the trip back the next day to pick it up! (Have I mentioned how wonderful he is? No? Maybe I’ll do a whole post on it one day!)  Anyhoo...that made it much easier to decide to get the 2 desks and the coffee table, too! (Wouldn’t want him driving all that way just for one piece of furniture, now would we?)

I managed to get one picture while we scraped off the top veneer because it was in such bad shape, but then I guess I just got excited, because I didn't get anymore! Ahem, so I will go ahead and insert here that I am probably the last person in Blogland to jump on the ASCP wagon. Oh, I want some in the worst way, but I have a fear of ordering something over the internet that I can’t physically see or touch. I am going to get some though, because I have the perfect piece just screaming for some ASCP…that and it would take for-ever to sand this baby down and I can’t wait to test the “no sanding required” I keep hearing about! So, there is a roadtrip in my near future to hunt me some down!

Now, that being said…I have tried Pantone paint and so far have been very pleased with it, just wish they had more colors. I painted this piece in Pantone’s "tea" and love the way it turned out! I know you can’t tell in these pics, but it is a lovely shade of green. Pair that with basic black…and voila’…

I am really liking her now! I will tell you, this piece was a bear! Mr. Right had to fill in some very deep gouges in the top and we sanded, and sanded, painted, then sanded some more! And there are these very thin grooves on the front that were difficult for me to paint because my hand is not that steady, but I got ‘r done and I am loving her! She did not have one single knob that matched on her, but this little guy is original, I think…

Can you see the detail? When I pulled it off, I realized that’s what made the indentions in the wood. Oh how I wish I had all of them, but I don’t so I just went with basic wooden knobs painted black. What do you think? Should I have gone with some black glass knobs?

Stay tuned for later when I make my big announcement and some more great reveals!!

Not-so-slim pickins!

Hi ya'll! Guess what?? Mr. Right took me pickin'! WooHoo!!! Ya'll want to take a peek? Good, cuz I've been dyin' to show you!

So, let me start out by saying this NEVER happens to me. Never. I stalk all your blogs and drool over all the wonderful, chippy, rusty, cool pickens ya'll score...and I am (ashamed to admit) a teensy bit jealous.  But not this time, oh no! This time it was "moi" that S.C.O.R.E.D!!! Take a look see for yourselves...

Yes, I know, close your mouths ladies. ;)  And this isn't even all, oh no...Mr. Right had to go back the next day to finish loading this:

wait, I'm not done yet...

still not done...

ok, NOW I'm done! Well not really, actually we got a coffee table with the *sexiest* legs, except there are only 3 of them! I haven't taken a picture of her yet, but I will!

So, I've...ok we've... been super-duper busy with all this stuff (hence my blog suffering!) however, I have some major (well, they're major to me) reveals and announcements to make...
but you'll have to stop back by to find out what they are!! ;)

Postcard table and a new magazine...

Hey ya'll! I know it's been awhile...but life has unexpectedly taken a front seat. I promise it will not be so long in between posts again! So, after some computer problems (which I hope to have resolved!), and other bumps in the road...all is well and I'm back!

I have been really busy since my last post, and I have lots to show you in the next couple of weeks! I've got lots going on & I'm really excited in the direction things are beginning to go! I hope you will stay with me as I embark on this new journey!  I have realized recently, just how large all this antiquing, re-purposing, re-cycling, junking, saving the planet one old desk or dresser from the landfill at a time, blogging, whatever it is that you do, that connects us all. It can be overwhelming at times, however if you take baby steps, it can be exhilarating!

First things first...I would like to take this opportunity for anyone that has not yet heard of this up & coming awesome new magazine heading to newstands everywhere soon! FOLK Magazine looks like it was made just for me! And you, and you! This magazine is truly going places...and I want to be there every step of the way! If you haven't already...go check them out...FOLK Magazine and check them out on Facebook!
Next, I just finished a copycat project from Red Hen Home and you can find it here.  I've had this old coffee table for years, and even used it for awhile...but it was never quite what I wanted...until I came across Korrie's postcard table. Here's what I started with:

I know this isn't the greatest picture, I forgot to get a good before shot, so here it is once I started sanding

Next, I painted it in Antique white, I know...I'm slow to get on the ASCP bandwagon...but it is in the works!

Then I grabbed the image from The Graphics Fairy, and used my handy dandy projector that I learned about from Miss Mustard Seed...and voila':

Sorry for the pictures folks, a new camera is definitely on my wish list! Glad Christmas is getting closer!! ;) I am very pleased at how this table turned out...so thanks to all of those I listed above for the inspiration! Hopefully, I will win a FOLKS Magazine first edition and put it on my new postcard table! As I said before, I have more things in the works! Please stay tuned!

Figuring It All Out...

So, as a newbie (is that what we’re called?), I have so many questions running through my head…like…”how do I get someone to post a comment?”   HAHA!  Just kidding!  (ok, not really.)

Seriously though, I was lying in bed last night & couldn’t sleep for all the questions running through my head (is this a common symptom of blog addiction?)
For instance: what do you do when an idea for a blog just hits you and you’re not at your computer? Do you jump out of bed and run (ok,  I don’t “run”) go type something up real quick (kinda like I did at midnight)?   What do you do if you’re not near a computer?

How do you organize all the photos you take, before and after you download them on the computer? For example…I read these blogs where my fellow bloggers go on these amazing trips to all these wonderful shows and antique stores, and just plain fantastic junkin escapades and they have all these amazing pictures, and they have all the locations and all the fun people they meet along the way and then they come home, download the amazing pictures, list everyone by name and even link them to their respective blogs and websites….YIKES!!! How DO they DO that???

How to host a link up party & give-away (cuz seriously, if I knew how to do that, I’d be having one for anyone who could answer some of these questions!) How do you organize your blog ideas; how do you get advertisers on your blogs; how do you get the buttons and links to all of the other blogs? What is blogging etiquette? What if I make someone mad because I didn’t follow blogging etiquette because I didn’t know it? How do you remember to check everything you need to each day, check your blog, read all the other blogs, read ALL your comments ( and reply)…okay, so this isn’t a problem for me… yet…but I do have faith!; and read your emails, and reply to them as well, and check your facebook, post a status, and reply to all of those, and do the laundry, bring home the bacon and fry it up  in a pan  and still find time to go to some of the most amazing pickin’ spots, find fabulous stuff, and if its not fabulous, come home and make it fabulous…and take pictures, download them, and post about it…just to start all over again tomorrow???  WHEW!!!  What have I got myself into?  Am I the only one feeling a little overwhelmed?  You all are super women….I salute you…and I want to be just like you when I grow up! ;)

There is so much to learn, so much to remember…so, as I beg for your patience during my learning curve, I humbly ask if anyone wants to share on how they make it through their day and not only get all this done, but seriously, any organizing your photos tips & tricks, or organizing your time tips & tricks, anything to help us newbies out…and I’m sure I’m not alone, we’d be much appreciative!! Please feel free to leave a comment, or better yet, if you would like to have your own post on any or one of my many questions, please link back so not only I, but my loyal followers can get answers to their many questions, too! ;)
Happy Hump Day!!

A Few of My Favorite Things....

So, I was thinking (shock, I know)
I would take a few snapshots (do people still say that?)
of a few of my favorite treasures
around my home
that make me smile  :-)

Problem is...
after I took them
I kinda realized the difference
between my camera and all ya'lls cameras  :-(

Now I know why everyone is always bragging
about their new, super, uber,
(yes, I said it, I have a teenage daughter)
cool cameras!

So, I apologize in advance for the
poor shots...and will have to add a new, super
uber, cool camera to the wish list...well, maybe it doesn't have to be "new"...I'm not really into "new", it usually makes me break out in a rash...

So, without further ado...here are a few of my favorite things!
Hope you enjoy!!

This is an antique sewing machine my dad is letting me "borrow" because they didn't have anyplace for it...yeah, I don't think I'm giving this back!! (Sorry Dad!)
This was one of my first antique pieces of furniture, and I've never looked back!!!

This is a antique child's wagon seat that the Mr. made into a shelf for my daughter's room!
It is soooo old and neat!

I hate cereal, but I love this Corn Flake sign, I mean, just LOOK at that patina...it is totally gross on the back!

This is my birdhouse my dad made me, I will treasure this  *for-ever*

This is my old pump...the Mr. is supposed to add this to my pond & make a fountain
He is so sweet!!
This is my old wagon wheel hub in my flower bed *love*

New Beginnings...

Hello there! Thank you for visiting my blog! This is a new journey for me, so I hope you will continue to return and accompany me! I am not new to the blogging world, I have been stalking many of your blogs for well over a year now, but I have finally got the courage to start my own. I just hope that I can be half as entertaining, creative, talented and inspiring as some of the blogs I have been stalking! Let me introduce myself...

My name is Dayna, and just like most of you, I am a lover of all things old & worn, but I also love to give the old & worn new life. I love junking, picking, antiquing,or dumpster diving ~ whatever you choose to call it in your neck of the woods, it makes my heart race & puts a smile on my face! I have done it for years, but none of my "friends" enjoyed it - they all thought I was crazy, and so I was beginning to think the same thing. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled into the blogging world! "Oh my! I am not crazy!! There ARE other people in this world just like me!!"

Through a series of life experiences in the past year or so, I have finally been blessed with the opportunity to live my dream and this blog gives me the opportunity to chronicle that journey. So please continue to check back often as I take the giant (and a bit scary) leap into the unknown!!
